Renter’s Collision Protection (RCP)

What You Need to Know About (RCP)

What is Renter’s Collision Protection (RCP)?
Renter’s Collision Protection (RCP) is an insurance offering that our renters can purchase to cover damages to their rental vehicle, including collisions, accidents, vandalism, fire, windstorm, or hail. RCP offers a maximum payout of $20,000 and requires the renter to pay a $250 deductible.

Incident Reporting
Renters who purchase RCP are required to report accidents or vehicle damage to local law enforcement and Prime Rent-A-Car, immediately after discovering damage or loss. This is what you need to know in order to file an RCP claim.

Do I need to have a police report for every accident claim?
Every accident claim MUST HAVE a police report, even when no one is hurt, or the incident occurs on private property. If the police do not come to the scene, the renter must go to the nearest police station and fill out an incident report.

RCP Policy
RCP policies are in the renter’s name, not Prime Rent-A-Car. In the event of damage or loss, the renter will need to complete the RCP Claim Form and sign the document after completion. Prime Rent-A-Car cannot make a report on behalf of a renter but can assist the renter with this process.

What is the cost to add an additional driver to RCP coverage?
One of the best features of RCP is there are NO ADDED CHARGES for additional drivers. All drivers who have been added to the rental agreement are automatically covered in RCP daily rate. The important thing is to make sure ALL drivers are named on the rental agreement AND the RCP policy.

Is RCP based on a calendar day or 24 hours?
RCP is valid 24 hours from the date and time you purchased it. If your vehicle is returned after the drop-off date/time, a charge for an additional day will be automatically added to your rental, after a 30-minute grace period.

Does RCP pay for towing and storage?
RCP is a named perils policy and does not pay for towing and storage. However, Prime Rent-A-Car may offer 24-hr Roadside Assistance. Check with a Prime Rent-A-Car agent for details.

Does RCP pay for a stolen car?
RCP does not pay for a stolen vehicle; it is an accident/collision policy. If your rental vehicle is stolen while out on rent, you are responsible for recovery charges. Check with your insurance company directly, for your coverage details related to stolen rental vehicles.

What types of vehicles are covered by RCP?
RCP covers passenger cars, pickup and other light trucks, mini-vans, and passenger vans, including 15 passenger vans. High-performance vehicles such as Corvettes and Vipers are NOT covered.

What if I need to keep my rental car longer?
If you need to extend your rental, you need to contact Prime Rent-A-Car and purchase the additional day(s) of RCP. Failure to do so will result in automatic charges for the additional days and possibly additional compliance fees.

What if I want to bring the rental car back early?
Once you take possession of the car, the RCP coverage goes into effect for the total rental. You may return the vehicle early. However, there are no provisions or refunds for early returns or cancellations.

Does RCP have provisions for damage to other people’s property?
No. RCP only pays for damage done to the car you have rented from Prime Rent-A-Car.

What is the maximum # of days I can have RCP coverage on my rental car?
RCP is a rental policy that cannot exceed 30 days. Thirty-one days or longer is considered a “lease”; RCP can only be sold for a rental.
